A Unicorn

Fantasy and Sci-Fi Art

Those have been some of my favorite genres since childhood.  I think fairies, monsters, unusual, or mythical creatures are fun to draw and paint.

This is my latest digital work.  Dyeve, a blogger friend of mine asked me if I would paint a unicorn and here it is.

  1. I am so impressed with your unicorn picture! It is very beautiful. I am jealous as I have yet learned how to weild my art programs in such a way as you have. I will check back to see how else you have master the digital art world!

    • Hi Rusti, Thank you for the kind comment =)
I hope I also can continue to learn the programs, and improve my digital art…so far it is a fun process.

  2. Is just absolutely gorgeous. Impeccably! I am very proud of you and Thank you so much that you fulfilled my wish. * Even if I lost hope* (never ..  ) my waiting worth it every minute, every second.
    I really love him!!!!!

Becouse your wonderful Unicorn , they says that the single horn of the unicorn must be considered a sacred symbol of verticality, of that “axis mundi” that connects the lower worlds and material universe of heaven above the world and possibly divine pleroma

From now on this Unicorn will lives in me forever, and now I could explain to some peoples from where it cames this horn which I have ahead in my head. ha ha ..

Thank You ♥, from the bottom of my heart!I’m Very happy now and you’ll be allways my sweet pie – smiles -

    PS_
Where did the inspiration come to you?
How long actually actually in hours, days you could finish it? ( no, not when you started I already know that ..: ) ))]

    Dy,

    • Hi Dy =) I am so glad you liked him!
I dont know how long it took, probably about 4 or 5 hours total.

–that isnt counting how many times I started over =)

    • Hi Daniel =)
      Thank you!
I like this theme too, –except that you cant really add your own header. You can but it keeps part of the original around it. So when they come out with one just like this but with a customizable header I’ll probably use that one.

  3. This is EXTREMELY impressive!! I love this style of painting. I’d love to see how you did that, is there a video for this one?

    • Thank you Justin =)
I wish I would have recorded it.
–it’s painted the same way as I did the others, with Gimp and mostly the round paintbrushes…but I did use layers this time.
Do you have any more speed paintings planned? =)

        • Alright, cant wait to see them =) Are they art related or game or other? Be sure to send me a notice on YouTube if you post there. I hope to start a new drawing with a video in a day or two, it’s going to be an underwater subject.

  4. this one just stopped by breath for a moment, and took me directly into the virtual fantasy world of runescape (an MMORPG, which i played long ago). I just cannot express in words how beautiful was this one.

    • Hey Phoxis =)
Thank you for your kind comment, it is so encouraging to me to know that you enjoyed it! I looked at the Runescape site, they have some cool artwork.

Hope you have a happy weekend!

    • Hi Rico =)
Thanks for visiting, and Thank you! — I use Gimp + GPS, and a tablet. I am still learning how to use them, but it’s a fun learning experience.

    • Hi NP =)
Thank you for stopping by and the wonderful comment!
I am thinking of designing for shirts and stuff…I have to research more about best practices for creating and saving with intention to print.

  5. Jayme this is absolutely exquisite. I think it is the best thing you have done – of the pieces I have seen anyway.

You know it sort of puts me in mind of Dyeve – she is so beautiful and has a mystical quality about her.

    • Hi Ladygoodwood =)
Thank you, –Yay, improvement is good.

Of course! I agree, the lovely and enigmatic Dy, –she is indeed one of a kind.

  6. Beautiful picture of the unicorn. I love it. It’s my first time here in your blog and I would definately come back. :) You’re very talented indeed. :)

I just mentioned in the BC thread, I have been dreaming of unicorn for the last three nights and then your thread is the first I saw when I logged in to BC.

    Thanks for sharing. :)

  7. Hi Ná =)

    Thank you very much.
Yes, you can use it to illustrate a post on a non-commercial site.
Provided you don’t alter the work, do give attribution (Jayme Art) and a link back to this site.

    • Hi Clair =)
Thank you! As the awesome photographer, editor and artist that you are… you’re not allowed to be jealous. –I am =)

  8. It’s gorgeous. You are a remarkably gifted artist and I’m one of your biggest fans. :)

Your unicorn has a decidedly Arabian charateristics including the dished face and reminds me of my mare. She was a gorgeous little horse and a great ride for advanced riders only. She was just too sensitive to put up with those who didn’t know how to ride with their backsides and legs and who sawed on her mouth.   She bucked off anyone who was insensitive and that’s how she became mine. The owner said if you can ride her on a halter (no bit)  at all 4 gaits, and over fences, and she doesn’t toss you I’ll let you buy her. The rest was history. She was mine until she passed away.

    • Thank you TT =)
Animals have feelings, they have their own personalities just like people do. I am glad she had a good home with someone who understood her and treated her well. =)
      Thanks for stopping by!

  9. WOW. I use GIMP on occasions but my main tool is PSP X2, and I would not imagine that either of those could create such an awesome image with my hand on the mouse.

Do you use a tablet or mouse? (or laptop scrollpad – jk)

Thanks for posting such an inspirational image, there may be hope for me yet.

    • Hi Ian =)
Thanks for visiting. I use a wacom tablet and pen, and Gimp. Do you have any of your stuff online?
–There is hope for everyone =)

    • Hi Ben, Thank you =)
I used Gimp, GPS, & Wacom tablet and pen.

–What a very cool idea for your site, I saw some helpful tutorials there!

  10. Drawing and painting unicorns is something that I haven’t got around to yet, but yours is excellent and inspiring to look at. Is this totally digital or a painting that was then digitally altered?

I’ll have to get me some digital software, maybe a graphics tablet, the things you can do on them with basic drawings that you scan in….it’s awesome!!

    • Hello Wayne =)
Thank you. -Sometimes I scan in a drawing first. (now that I have a working scanner again) but I did this one start to finish digitally.
      — I couldnt do anything digital without a tablet and stylus. (well, except vectors)

-I know, there is so much cool stuff you can do with your drawings on the computer! -Gimp is a great free program to use. :)

  11. Holy Cr*p thats Gorgeous!! This was all done with digital?! Wow. I can just imagine the stuff you can produce by traditional means. Your really good!! How long did it take you to learn your way around this medium? Did you grow up doing it?

    • Hey MM =)
Yes, all done in Gimp. –Thank you!
I’ve been at it for about a year now –I’m still learning.
Having an opportunity to learn to the software and computer stuff in school would have been great.
