The Art of Baking

I love to bake!

…Almost as much as I love to draw and paint.

Texas is finally getting some chilly weather. Winter is coming! For me, that means even more baking (than I already do).   Breads, cakes, cookies, muffins and all sorts of goodies.

I try to use organic ingredients as much as possible, especially when it can really make a difference.  The link below is a helpful chart that shows which fruits and vegetables have the heaviest pesticide loads and which ones have less.

EWG’s Shoppers Guide.

These are the ingredients for frosting,  (along with a few tablespoons of milk) for a Carrot Cake we baked yesterday.

Below is a picture of the cake before frosting.  The mix also made 6 large muffins.

If you’d like our recipe, email me.  You can reach me through my contact page.

And here’s a slice with frosting.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures!

The last few posts here at my art blog have been photos.  I know photography and baking are an art. But since my art blog is mostly about drawing, painting, and digital art,  I will definitely post a new Inkscape artwork next.  I just need to finish a few details on it.

Till then, happy drawing, baking or whatever it is that you enjoy doing!

  1. Ooooh another baker here :D How fun is this! Carrot cake is on my to bake list, scones as well. This looks really delicious! When I was with Claire she gave me a piece of walnut cake, which was very very tasty. Especially with coffee. Oh I want that now! i baked red velvet cupcakes yesterday ^_^.

    • Hi TJ =)
      That’s awesome :)
I haven’t tried scones yet, sounds fun too, and I bet the cupcakes were delicious! –Thank you, the Carrot cake was really good. It’s one of my favorites….a tie between Zucchini bread, Pumpkin bread and Blueberry muffins– Claires Walnut cake sounds good too :]

  2. Wow! You’re such a great photographer that even the ingredients look appetizing! (Seriously, great composition.) Thanks for the link, too. What hepful information. My daughter is the baker in the family and, boy, do I love it when the urge to concoct something strikes her. Your carrot cake looks delicious. Hope you enjoyed it.

    • Hi Theresa =)
Grape seed oil is a light, unobtrusive oil that really adds no flavor. It is a polyunsaturated oil though — Macadamia or coconut oil are probably better. I like extra virgin olive oil for most everything else. :]

  3. Yummy! Definitely enjoyed the photos:D I also love to bake, especially when I have these crazy cravings like Chocolate Cake or biscuits. Love to bake biscuits!!!

I shall have to try carrot cake soon. Your post definitely wet my appetite:)

  4. I love baked items, breads, muffins etc. I hope that they soon invent some technology to transfer food through the internet…. The hostel mess facility is closed today, and i have a picture of an awesome cake in front of me!!

    • Hi Arjun =)
Sorry it was closed. –I wish that kind of technology was available too :] That would be really cool, Maybe one day!

  5. That really looks mouth watering. I was about to airbrush paint some of the food items and was browsing for that. Looking at your photographs of baking items, i am going to paint something like that :)
